James Fox's Craftland is a gorgeous book - a hefty volume with a parchment textured hardback finish, in a beautiful bright mustard, and peppered throughout with beautifully executed linocut and etched illustrations. It is, if you'll forgive me, exceptionally well crafted.
Fox's book follows the author as he travels the length and breadth of the British Isles seeking out the remaining master craftspeople in the workshops and at their work. The book explores the connection between creativity and skill, the way craft connects these ideas to the land, and the tension between an over-consumptive commercial culture and traditional material culture.
